Some time ago I got some questions from my dad...well..he told me to think and answer them.

To think as deep as I could..and find answers for each question I reach while searching for the answer to this question..

I'd give you just one of them.

Well..I would disclose my answer to it ..as the last comment in the comments page..

till then.....

u juggle.... struggle..and do all that u can do.. to answer this........please don't think its easy ...(well think what u want :P)

the question is

Now! How would you define Valid Knowledge....

Whatever Knowledge we receive from textbooks is bookish and is definitely not valid...

Whatever Knowledge we receive from our seniors may be biased and may be from our viewpoint or for our advantage.

So where we go looking for valid knowledge. It can be got from experiences and if we know it to take it in the right spirit..

Well.... lets wait for the answer....

Dhanya said...

Well, I believe any kind of knowledge we end up getting is valid. We are getting to learn something or the other. How can learning new things (be it even life's new lessons) be invalid?

Phoenix said...

knowledge can never be valid or not..

for me knowledge has lifetime validity something that does not have to be used for my need for someone elses.. it can be plain acquisition too...

but then to most people knowledge is relative..it would mean different things to different people...

on the whole, i decide to wait for the last comment in this post! :D

When you used the term a-priori, I knew you were into some kind of philosophical stuff …
And here this question only adds to my doubt …

Tell me what’s knowledge in the first place…just the stuff we mug up from the books, through the senses, from others? Or it s something that’s innate?

I don’t think you can plse ur dad unless you know who is his favorite.. Aristotle or kant or plato … or I dono who ..

Bye the way, I have no idea why it doesn’t update on your blog, any clue? Is there anything I got to do with my settings? Plse help…

Very interesting qn Joyce.

All I can say is, yes we CAN acquire valid knowledge. The TRUTH will always be out there. Our opinions on it may vary or the way we interpret the knowledge we acquire may be different, but that purity of the TRUTH will never change. It doesnt get affected by any of our subjective definitions of it. It stays as it is.

And the capability of seeing that TRUTH just the way it is, is within us all. But we all see things differently. No matter what, the TRUTH is out there.

What was ur answer? :)

Hie Joyce.A first timer here.I would say that everything in the world is valid. So does knowledge!!It is endless & there's no clause in any dictionary/encyclopedia that knowledge is invalid.

Meanwhile, knowledge acquisition involves complex cognitive processes: perception, learning, communication, association and reasoning...

haww... mere paas toh itni akal hi nahi... kya karun??

Wait karun last comment ka??

:)

It is for us to accept and embrace knowledge the way we get it, it depends on us to consider it valid of not. It depends upon our perception to an extent.

What I perceive as the truth and valid knowledge may have a different meaning for you altogether. Knowledge keeps growing and changing and thts wat makes is interesting.

"Valid Knowledge", just two little words... keeping a big secret... :)
"Knowledge", the word could be related to "experience". it is something which u learn frm ur experience rather than simply mugging up some definitions, theories, facts... etc..etc.. being practical and learning frm ur failures, good n bad experiences n even frm ur success means "knowledge".
putting your efforts to complete a task or to solve a problem or to win a contest is "knowledge".
trying until u succeed n filling up the black holes is "knowledge".
giving ur best at every attempt is "knowledge".
accepting the fact that u lost in a certain case n looking for the reasons of ur failure is "knowledge".
the little things which u cud learn frm a little child like identifying an object, analyzing it, differentiating between sounds, smiling at certain instances n crying in some circumstances is "knowledge".
playing with a toy n making out different sounds is "knowledge".
looking at birds n animals and developing a feeling of joy or fear is "knowledge".
thinking of something as huge and as massive as sun, moon or tiny granules... as how they r..?? why they r..?? is "knowledge".
writing a poem or an article is "knowledge".
expressing urself is "knowledge".
listening to others n gaining frm them is "knowledge".

and when u try to implement ur knowledge in a way such that ur heart prompts u to do is called "Valid Knowledge"

Ei priya …did you give some surprise to your dad?

Ei thanks a lot for helping .. I went through that session .. how does it work now? Updating?

Priya Joyce said...

@ suresh:
Well how can you say all bookish knowledge is invalid...there are some facts which cannot be proved wrong ..for instance....wars battles..inventions etc..they are true..and are worth learning ...

well the answer can be different when looked from different points of views...so even my answer can be questioned from ur point of view..

Priya Joyce said...

@ dhanya:

well...but some things can be invalid in some peoples eyes...and some things can be agreeable by all..like the basic facts..then don't you think its better to learn..the agreeable ones..as in perspective basis...what all agree only will be accepted.

Priya Joyce said...

@ raka:

well, simply acquiring knowledge...without any use..do u think we are in a world where we could waste so much tym like that??

I'll be happy to argue...plees post ur arguments..

:P

Priya Joyce said...

@ leo:
i'd be happier if u wud hav had posted ur arguments on the quest..well nyway...i shud say that my answer needn't be agreeable to all.

Pallav said...

@ amal:

well what if ur knowledge isn't valid??
hey come on.that was an emotionally coated comment..

Priya Joyce said...

@ hemz:
well...I don't think everythink we learn would be valid there r some invalid things too ..well waiting to see u complete ur argument.

Priya Joyce said...

@ deeps:

well knowledge can be anything..well I basically don't understand why people make bookish knowledge so small..i kindaa don't agree.

and i was talking of the issue generally..so it can be nything innate or bookish :)

Priya Joyce said...

@ keshi:

well wow agree completely..and my opinion was similar too.

and yeh its true that the basic facts..the truth cannot be proved wrong..so its gud that we acquire such knowledge which is agreeable to all.

Priya Joyce said...

@ Nithz:

well how can u be so sure that the knowledge acquired even with reason can be valid..coz..validity just depends on people's opinion ..what most people feel is correct is followed..accept for the basic issues..facts as in..truths..

welcome here..
:)

Kartz said...

Well, it is relative. There are somethings which you will probably never know.

As far as the rest is concerned, yes, u can attain valid knowledge. Y? Keats has the answer - Beauty is truth, truth beauty.

No, the answer lies much deeper than the statement. Which, is for u to rack. :P

Peace.

Priya Joyce said...

@ harshii:

well at some points I felt is was same as my opinion

well what i feel is can we have different perceptions on the baic truths..like the existence of a person..the need of oxygen to liv..??

Priya Joyce said...

@ chriz:

well..*no comments*

Priya Joyce said...

@ arv:

hehe not like that...i asked can we acquire valid knowledge or not?

Priya Joyce said...

@mayz:

how come??

Priya Joyce said...

@ pratibha:

well yeh but I was talking of it being wrong or write.

Priya Joyce said...

@ puneet:

well those are so many definitions of knowledge...but the quest still remains..can knowledge be valid..whatever we use in life..can it be valid..is it correct??

and heyy welcome here..

:):)

Priya Joyce said...

@ deeps:

wat surprise??

hehe

well no its not updating on the followers page.

:(

Priya Joyce said...

@ pallav:

sahi hei..par kabhi kabhi thoda mood bhi philosophical ho jaata hei so ye sab sochne lagti hoon re..

well sahi hei par the basic truths and facts cannot be denied..of.

Priya Joyce said...

@ kartz:

then what about the basic facts..the truths which the whole world agrees to.

I mean the things like presence of oxygen..the existence of a person.which cannot be different from different points of views??

Priya Joyce said...

My answer is...If we talk about knowledge of certain things like..discoveries,wars etc which the world has witnessed then such knowledge is valid. As these cannot be proved false even when looked from different points of views.
But knowledge of self, others, and other debated issues..cannot be called valid...as in this is not agreeable by all.

I don't exactly say the knowledge which is not accepted by many isn't valid but its better to..know consented facts...coz..I don't think in today's world anybody cares for anyone's personal opinion..as..such personal opinions cannot be standardized.
ps:)..My personal opinion..can be debated..I'd love if people do come with a constructive argument on it.

Knowledge is valid as long as you can see its reflection in still water and in turbulence it don't waver :)
